More than just a summer job ...
|
|
For more than thirty years, DPF's Peace Intern program has
provided a vital witness for peace within church camps and other youth
events of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United
States and Canada. Peace Interns are young people trained in
current peace and justice issues who provide educational and program
support at church camps, serving as counselors and resource people, and
modeling the lifestyle of peacemakers for our youth. Since 1975,
more than 100 young people have
served as Peace Interns in hundreds of church camps and
conferences. The DPF Peace Intern program has had a lasting
impact both on the interns and the youth of our church. Interns
have gone on to become pastors, professors, social workers, human
rights activists, and other peacemakers in our communities and
world. Our youth have been exposed to new ideas and issues and
challenged to confront their own responsibility as citizens of a global
community.
The DPF Intern Program is an important ministry of DPF that needs your
support. Encourage young people interested in peace and justice
to apply to become a peace intern. Invite an intern to your camp
or conference. Or donate to DPF
to support the Peace Intern program.

Interested
in becoming a peace intern? Disciples
Peace Fellowship seeks young adults age 21 and older to travel the
country this summer. If you have an interest in pursuing and teaching
peace and working for justice, then this is the internship for you!
You'll earn approximately $2,000 for the summer, plus most expenses.
Room and board are provided by each region. Interns are expected to
complete a written report/evaluation at the conclusion of the summer.
The internship lasts from the end of May to the middle of August.
More importantly, you will be rewarded by the hundreds of contacts you
will make with the youth of our church and their adult leaders by
working in CYF camps all over
the United States.
Please read the letter explaining the intern program, then download and
complete the application form and send it in by February 5, 2008.
Provide reference forms to at least three people who know you well and
see that they send their forms in by February 5.

A DPF Intern can be a
valuable resource for your camp or
conference. Interns usually serve as counsellors for camps, while
also providing special programming on peace and justice issues and
serving as a resource and contact person for youth. DPF seeks to
make interns available for as many camps and conferences as possible
each summer, but there are always more requests for interns than
interns available. So get your requests in early. If you
would like an Intern to participate in your summer camp or event,
please download and complete the Request for Intern Form found below.
