Ecumenical Peace Conference

Hosted by Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary Elkhart, IN

July 28 - 31, 2010

Peace Among the Peoples is a gathering of ecumenically minded Christian peacemakers. The conference will be an opportunity to reflect on the future of the ecumenical peace movement in North America, and beyond.

In May 2011, the World Council of Churches will hold the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation in Kingston, Jamaica, culminating the 2001-2010 Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV) program. The immediate objective of Peace Among the Peoples is to critically appropriate the agenda of the 2011 Convocation.

The meeting will include daily panel presentations from leading thinkers and activists, including Vincent Harding, Rita Nakashima Brock, Stanley Hauerwas, John Perkins, Micheal Kinnamon, Mary Jo Leddy, Brian McLaren, and Guillermo Kerber. Each day will carry a theme:

  • Thursday – Theological, Ecclesiological and Ethical Foundations for Peace
  • Friday – Wrestling with Faithfulness in Peacemaking
  • Saturday – Our Future Work Together.

Morning prayer and evening worship will frame the beginning and the ending of each day.

Consciousness and War

Friday, April 9, 2010

1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Disciples Peace Fellowship will be hosting Bill Galvin from the Center on Consciousness and War at the Disciples Center THIS FRIDAY, April 9. Bill will bring us information on the GI Rights Hotline, Alternatives to Enlistment and lead us in a conversation about how church leaders can compassionately and accurately advise young people with theological inquiries about Consciousness and War.

This event is open to anyone interested in learning more about how to compassionately have a conversation around supporting soldiers who are theologically struggling with issues of war.

Reservations are not necessary, but are helpful. Please contact Kathy Coggins at disciplespeacefellowship@gmail.com to let us know that you plan to attend, or to ask any questions. This event is FREE, but there will be a voluntary offering at this event to help DPF with the costs.

Disciples Peace Fellowship is a 75 year old independent organization affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It is not a general unit of the church, and receives no funding from any source other than DPF members and benefactors. Even if you cannot attend this important event, please consider a gift to Disciples Peace Fellowship to ensure our work and ministry.http://dpfweb.org/donate/

Latest Details Released for Young Adult Peace Conference

Below are the very latest details on the Young Adult Peace Conference. Be sure to register now to reserve your space at this exiting event.

REGISTER NOW

When: March 11-14, 2010

Location: Community Christian Church, Kansas City, Missouri

Schedule (Download the detailed schedule as a PDF)

·       Morning Meditation:  Maybe a little Yoga?  Maybe a little Tai Chi? We haven’t decided exactly what this will look like, but for those who find themselves more contemplative, less able to deal with constant human interaction, slow to get going in the morning, or just up too early to entertain themselves, we are designing this time to promote inner peace throughout the weekend. If your idea of meditation is a few more minutes with your pillow, no worries – we know it’s not for everyone.

·       Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner: Lunches are included with your registration.  A light breakfast will be served for those staying at the church.  Dinner each night is on your own.  We will be located directly on the historic Kansas City Country Club Plaza, within walking distance of countless restaurants. Take this time to dine with new friends and see Kansas City.
